As part of a songwriting team with Ken Lewis, John Carter wrote several pop and rock hits in the 1960s, including Herman's Hermits' "Can't You Heart My Heartbeat," Brenda Lee's "Is It True?," the Music Explosion's "Little Bit o' Soul," and Peter Gordon's "Sunday for Tea."
