Jody Watley got her start as a dancer on the TV show Soul Train. From 1977 to 1984, she was a singer in the group Shalamar. Her debut solo album, Jody Watley (1987), sold a million copies and produced three Top Ten hits -- "Looking for a New Love," "Don't You Want Me," and "Some Kind of Lover." As a result of its success, Watley won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist of 1987.
