    I have seen the movie for about 20 times. I was curious about Joan and Jean. I was thinking if there was a romantic angle between the real lives of these people. This makes me wanna research.

    The leading actress, Ms. Sobieski was very good in her role and the twist at the end of the story...well I never saw that coming. I love a movie that I can't predict the ending.

    Jeanne d' Arc meets LeeLee

    Joan of Arc is my favorite person in history!!!LeeLee Sobeski portrayed her so well in this film! Other actresses have attemped and failed to accurately portray this French legend, such as in "The Messenger". I did not like that one becayse... Joan was protrayed as almost psycotic. LeeLee has done so well in other movies & deserves to be recognized. Read more Less

    It felt like I was on something while the whole time I was given insight to the mind of a crazy girl. It shone a new light on JOan of Arc and explored the justice system of the middle ages. It's got a monster plot and script and is one of the best m...ovies I've seen in a long time. THe story line realy draws you in! Read more Less

    Leelee Sobieski the french connection

    In terms of historical value, not extremely accurate – but who cares? When you get a TV movie that is this spectacular, visually lush, brilliantly acted and emotionally gripping, historical accuracy is the last thing you’ll complain about.Rarely d...oes a TV movie come along that is as well conceived as its mega budget says it should be. Absolutely stunning battle scenes (especially for a TV production), rich location shooting and a superb cast make Joan of Arc unquestionably one of the best TV movies ever made.But what crowns Joan of Arc as a “5 star” production is it’s outstanding lead, Leelee Sobieski. Perfectly cast, Sobieski brings qualities to the French saint never seen before – an innocent, yet strong and commanding personality, a “virginial” presence, a face resembling something of a saint/angel/renaissance painting plus not to mention that she was “actually” the right age to play the legendary teenage warrior. Sobieski’s performance is so exceptional, she holds the entire 4 hours together, and at the same time, leaves other Joan of Arc interpretations by the likes of Ingrid Bergman and Milla Jovavich in her wake.Definitely the best TV movie I’ve ever, and a far better bet than Luc Besson’s/Milla Jovavich’s version… Read more Less

    Actress' youthfulness suits her role

    Mark 1999 as the year of Joan of Arc with no less than three filmed stories of her heroic life are under way, including one by director Luc Besson.It features excellent acting on the part of Sobieski playing the role of headstrong and innocent Joan,... who, among few of her tender years have been accorded the honour of a Best Actress nomination. She is perhaps best remembered as the girl who wanted to stay with her boyfriend in Deep Impact. Peter O' Toole is certainly convincing in his bad guy role as Bishop Cauchon and that perhaps won him the only Emmy for the movie. For the role of Joan's parents, veterens Jacqueline Bisset and Powers Booth filled in the spot nicely and quite suitably while Olympia Dukakis and Robert Loggia played her mortal counsels, religious advisors and confidantes. Her few friends are filled in by Peter Strauss, who played the mecenary Captain La Hire, and Chad Willet, as the charimastic Jean de Metz. Shirley Maclaine, sister of actor Warren Beatty, filled in as the intelligent and influential Burgundian, Madame de Beaurevoir, who tries desperately to convert Joan to their (Burgandy) cause so as to save her from the English. Others in the main cast include Neil Patrick Harris as Charles (with the odd-looking haircut) and Maximilian Schell as Brother John LeíMaitre.On a lighter side, this spectacular and emotional movie is sufficiently devout so as not to offend any non-Christians. It features more of the patriotic theme than the religious one as one does not need to ponder the finer workings of Christianity to know what her life is about. On the whole, it is a rather weak one of the three movies in the making this year; but it is still worth watching.ccept: Read more Less
