Drummer and percussionist Jim Black became one of the most in-demand drummers in avant-garde jazz and improvised music as the '90s progressed. After moving from Seattle to N.Y.C. in 1991, Black became a member of Tim Berne's Bloodcount, Dave Douglas' Tiny Bell Trio, Ellery Eskelin's trio, and Pachora.
