Originally from Detroit, electronica musician and animator JeanPaul Bondy spent his early years playing drums in various new wave, industrial, and techno bands throughout the city as well as working as a hiphop DJ. In 1993 Bondy moved to L.A., where he begin experimenting with the slower ambient and chillout genres with Colophon and Two Silver Boxes, and in 1998 he formed the group Volsoc with Justin Maxwell.
