Guitarist and koto improviser Jason Stanyek became active in the U.S. West Coast new music scene in the mid-'90s. The composer and writer was a doctoral candidate at U.C., San Diego, even while busy in a quartet with fellow U.C.S.D. graduates clarinetist Pat O'Keefe, trumpeter Glen Whitehead, and bassist/prepared pianist Scott Walton, a group that has gone under the names QQ and Scott Walton Quartet.
