    Don't Waste Your Money

    Cons: The movie

    It took about an hour and a half to even get into any action in the movie. The entire movie was slow and not much was going on. It's more like watching someone's everyday life. Of course, it's about a Marine, but it mostly reminded me of ...my ex-husband (who is a marine by the way) and his immaturity, hostile attitude, and overall GOD syndrome. I absolutely hated this movie. That's why I'm not married to him anymore. The only difference is that I didn't cheat on him, it was the other way around. Most Marines aren't as committed to their significant other as they portray in the movie. Read more Less

    Jarhead-one man's perspective

    Pros: Not a lot of fluff

    I enjoyed the movie tremendously. When I saw the promos for Jarhead, I was "excited" to see a Desert Shield/Storm era movie on the horizon. I got rattled when there was an avalanche of bad reviews surrounding it. I soon found a letter in th...e Army Times written by Mr. Swofford addressing the negative and accusational comments. He simply wanted to give an account of his military service. I think Hollywood has cranked out too much unrealistic crap and shellshocked us with unbelievable graphics to the point that everything has to be gory or sensational. I had to laugh at much of the boot camp scenario. My hubby served 6 years in the Corps, nearly just after graduating from high school. His mom told me how he returned from boot camp shouting with excessive use of the "F" word. I appreciate Mr. Swoffords willingness to share his time in the Corps as well as his part in Desert Shield/Storm. Read more Less

    Horrible!

    Cons: a negative movie

    If you are in the military, watched this movie and was then told you were about to be deployed for the first time you would proably go AWOL. This movie does nothing but put the US miltary to shame. Being the spouse of a US Soldier I am ashamed that I... even spent money on it. Issues range from infidelity on both ends, drinking, throwing parties, sexual gestures between fellow soldiers, the US firing on their own guys. I am not saying these things do not happen, they do...but not to everyone all of the time....give the military some credit! It was just a horrible movie! Read more Less

    In the latest from director Sam Mendes, Sgt. Siek leads a batallion of colorful troops including Tony Swofford adn Troy to the Middle East, waiting for the U.S. to declare war on Saddam Hussein's Iraq, turning Operation Desert Shield into Operati...on Desert Storm. Jake Gyllenhaal earned his stripes in attached to a male co-worker. Rarely in military flims are real-life aspects like spousal loyalty and loneliness approaches so openly, giving ou the understanding that a soldier's real battle is waged within. Like the 2003 memoir the movie is based on, the G.I Joe stuff is saved for cartoons. This is the head trip people wanting to revisist the mental side of Full Metal Jacket have waited for.
