Jack Montrose has long been a fine tenor saxophonist and in the 1950s, he was an important arranger in West Coast jazz. After graduating from Los Angeles State College in 1953, he worked with Jerry Gray, Art Pepper (with whom he collaborated on some memorable sessions), Red Norvo, Shorty Rogers, Mel Tormé, and others in L.A.
