  • Overall:

Nice VCR, should have rear coaxial input

By Brady  Jul 2, 2002 | 3 out of 3 found this JVC HRS2901U VCR review helpful

This VCR seems to operate well. The picture is clear, both on purchased movies and on recorded tapes. I have not tried using super VHS tapes, and do not intend to (expecting that in the near future all of my camcorder tapes will be recorded digitally to DVDs).

The one thing that bothers me is that the unit does not have coaxial (RCA) jacks on the back. There are inputs on the front, which are extremely helpful for camcorder "downloading", but none on the back.

My TV signal is from DirecTV, and I do not want to take the lowest-quality output option (RF) as the input for the VCR. Especially for a super VHS recorder. I also do not want to plug the DirecTV signal into the front, as I have a toddler who doesn't need any more attractive cords to look at.

Fast rewind is awesome, and a neat feature compared with my last player is that when you press "play" on the remote the movie starts playing clearly in less than a second. I have not noticed this player being too loud during playing or recording, but I sit ten feet away (the cabinet is open, no glass cover).
