Pros: Videa Quality and ease of use

    Cons: Photo quality

I found the photo quality a bit weak, but I like everything else about this camcorder. It records night video well, but requires the user to use advanced settings. If it is very dark, you need to adjust the shutter speed to 1/30 and use the gain. I d...id record a full 1hr of video on one battery, but found that when taking pictures and video and or playing with the settings the battery lasted around 1/2hr. The photos look good at 3mp, but when taken at full resolution look a bit grainy and noisy. Read more Less

    Pros: Small

Cons: Non Mac Compatibility, poor software, lousy support

Image quality for video and photo is bad. Auto focus inefficient. No connectivity with Mac unless you buy a program on a Japanese site and you cannot test it!! The programs provided to work with the PC are very limited and when you use the full versi...on they have nothing to do with the Mac products. This is not innovation. This a poor product. Never again I will buy JVC. Read more Less

    JVC GZ-MC500 Camcorder Review

Bottom line: it seems that the most detrimental element to the GZ-MC500 is its price. With a price tag near a grand and a half, the GZ-MC500 falls into the market of expensive, larger-sized 3 chip camcorders. I suppose you could argue that this camcorder, being uniquely sized, could hit the niche audience which has the money to buy bigger 3 chip camcorders, but wants something smaller. And this argument would hold water if the GZ-MC500 had comparable video performance to some of the 3 chip camcorders it is up against. Indeed, the PV-GS400, now only available for around twelve hundred dollars, performs better, as does the DCR-PC1000, which runs for only around nine hundred. Youll find better manual controls on many of these camcorders as well, and for less money. One thing that the GZ-MC500 has that few other camcorders have is absolutely stellar still performance. And maybe here is where the camcorder is saved; after all if youre looking for a nice hybrid, and dont mind spending a b... Read more
