sign goals of the W7 subwoofers were daunting: To combine sublime sound quality and graceful linearity with raw output on an unprecedented scale. Creating a woofer that was simply loud would have required far less work, but it would not have been in keeping with the philosophy of "sound quality first". Many technical obstacles had to be overcome to make W7's a reality. On the power handling front, two new (patent-pending) technologies were developed: a radially cross-drilled pole piece and a unique vented alloy frame that provides direct cooling to the top-plate of the driver. Combined with massive voice coils, these techniques deliver remarkable real-world power handling and prevent power compression effects from affecting sound quality during critical listening. On the output front, the W7's push the envelope of high-excursion driver design to new levels, without sacrificing cone area. This is possible due to the patented OverRoll surround design which permits the use of a large roll without a cone area penalty. Peak linear displacement is at least 90% greater than a comparably sized W3 driver, resulting in absolutely dominant output potential. The diaphragm design of the W7 takes an architectural approach to improving rigidity. A new (and patent-pending) W-Cone design achieves unprecedented stiffness and torsional rigidity without resorting to heavy metal or composite materials. It also isolates the diaphragm in contact with the listening environment completely from the pressure in the enclosure, further minimizing cone deformation at the extreme output levels that the W7's can generate.

Cons: Price and trunk space
Previously in my car I had 2 10in Volfenhag subs and an underpowering amp so my volume could never go up past 6 or the bass wouldn't play. A lot of things happened and then I can into some money and bought the JL Audio 13W7 along with the JL Audio 1000/1 amp.
I got these installed at Circuit City. It took about 2 1/2 hours for them to install everything. I came back in the store a little early and was playing in the computers section near the car audio. I would hear this amazing bass and was like...if that's my car, I'm going to be needing A LOT of Tylenol because I would be getting headaches.
The installers called me and he told me the bass was so crazy my CDs started falling out of their little bins that they were in on the visor...they are in there PRETTY tight.
I go to my car, he said he installed 2 L7s and they weren't NEARLY as loud as my 1 W7.
This sub is nothing short of amazing. Don't listen to any review that downs this sub because it is awesome. At school, I have the loudest speakers. Everywhere I go I have the loudest speakers.
The only downside to this speaker is the HUGE box it has to be in. My car has a tiny trunk and it barely fits. Along with that, it is pricey...but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR TRUST ME.
You will NOT be dissapointed with this subwoofer, I promise you. JL Audio is a God and this subwoofer is perfect. ...

This sub is strait out amazing. I have heard great things about the W7's but i didn't think just one sub would satisfy me. I was running two JL W3 12" in my hatchback focus. And thought it sounded great. could hear me from almost a block away. This W7 blows them away. Clean, Deep, Loud, violent as hell and nice crisp sound quality. when people hear it they can't believe it's only one sub. well worth the money. just make sure to budget in a real nice high power amp. Will make for a much better sounding setup. ...
