Pro Reviews: It's Madness Too [EMI]

  • All Music Guide

It's Madness is the first part of an awkwardly sequenced two-disc collection that contains all of the singles and most of the B-sides from the first album in 1978 through the departure of pianist Mike Barson in 1984. Oddly enough, this first CD covers a patchy sampling of the middle of that period, beginning with the January, 1980 release of "My Girl" and running through the 1983 single "Wings of a Dove." While it does offer a thorough history of the chart performances of each single, It's Madness and its separately sold companion piece, It's Madness, Too, have been antiquated by the subsequent release of the box set The Business. That compilation offers several B-sides that didn't make the It's Madness discs, and it also covers the post-Barson era.

Although the band managed one crossover American hit in 1983, the band remained a British phenomenon, infl... Read more
