Different than the FSoL you're used

Almost a 5 star album.
, September 6, 2002Reviewer: lucas341 - See all lucas341's reviewsMuch slower than "Accelerator", but that's not the reason why I'm giving it only 4 stars.
In the end, it's worth buying. It's still above the rest of what you can get.

Pro Reviews: Isness
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Future Sound of London returned to active recording with The Isness, a record that trumpets a host of through-the-ages psychedelic influences, from the Beatles to Gong to mid-'70s Pink Floyd to Spacemen 3 to the Chemical Brothers. The opener, "Elysian Feels," has the back-masked strings of "Tomorrow Never Knows," a surprisingly AOR guitar solo, and a few Chemical Brothers breaks. "The Mello Hippo Disco Show" has a hippy vocal floating over a series of funereal chords and some Mellotron effects. It's clear that Garry Cobain and Brian Dougans are still great producers; check out "Osho," an excellent piece of light blaxploitation funk grafted onto film strings. - John Bush, All Music Guide |

Pros: First listen is pretty distasteful
Cons: After a while it does grow on you
If you're used to FSoL's music get ready to be through into another galaxy of the duo's weird music (no pun intended). Honestly though I'm used to tracks like "We Have Explosive" and "Expander", The Isness is somewhat of a 180 degree move for FSoL and at first I really didn't like it, after a few listens though it grew on me and I learned to appreciate the different angles these guys are trying to pull off musically. Whether they succeeded in doing it or not is irrelevent because it seems obvious Cobain and Dougans are not in it for the fame and fortune, these guys really love music and I love the album all the more for it. ...
