Pros: eccentric, original, nearly flawless
Cons: only available as japanese import for $40+
After ten years as a leader of the hippie folk scene, including time in the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, and as co-lead singer on the 2 superb Paul Butterfield's Better Days albums, Geoff Muldaur recorded one of the most unique, lovable lps of the 70s. Runs the gamut from blues to jazz to folk to orchestral to r&b. Phenomenal musicianship throughout. Amos Garrett, Cornell Dupree, Stephen Bruton and Richard Thompson on guitar. Ron Carter on bass, Maria M on bg vocals, John Cale on viola, plus about a hundred others. This record never takes itself too seriously, except maybe when I Want To Be A Sailor pushes the schmaltz envelope a bit, but is unfailingly genuine and frequently brilliant. A lovely, wonderful record. So what if it's the price of a good dinner? You'll never have a dinner this tasty. ...
