    Well worth the watch for the acting alon

    I read Iris Murdoch as an English major but knew nothing really about her or her life. I picked this film up on a whim and was very glad I did. The acting is first rate and worth the cost of the movie alone. With all the poor film out there its nice ...to get one where the characters are developed to the point where you feel you know them and therefore care about the story that the filmaker is putting out there for you to watch. There is just so much junk out there that its refreshing to see something worth watching. I watched this movie after I rented Birthday Girl and didn't even finsih watching it because it was so bad. This film drew me in quickly and they way it was filmed was as beautiful as the way the actors/actresses performed the roles. At times this film has an almost dreamlike quality to it. Even with the seriousness of the film's theme I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a finely acted movie over just fluff. Read more Less

    Jim Broadbent deserved the Oscar (and should have won for Topsy Turvy), Dame Judi and Kate Winslet also deliver incredible performances... I had no idea who Iris Murdoch was before I saw the film, now I'm glad I decided to take the chance.
