    Rik Emmett Master Guitarist!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 7, 2005

Pros: Great mix of Rocker, Ballads, and Instrumentals

    Cons: Absolutely none.

Originally released in 1992, Ispo Facto is Rik Emmett's 2nd solo release after leaving his former band "Triumph". Rik has always been a master guitarist and Ipso Facto showcases his incredible guitar work. Rik is also a great songwriter... and with this album he has been able to explore many different song ideas and writing styles. The tracks "Straight Up" and "Bang On" and "Rainbow Man" are great rocker songs and Rik's guitar work is awesome. The song "Out Of the Blue" is a standout ballad track with wonderful guitar work. The last track "Woke Up This Morning(Blues In My Fingers) is a great tribute to the blues guitar legend "Lonnie Johnson". Ipso Facto showcases Rik Emmett's awesome guitar work and songwriting talents and I would recommend it to any true Rik Emmett fan. I personally own an autographed copy of the CD and sorry it is NOT for sale. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Ipso Facto

  • All Music Guide

Rik Emmett would very much like to be recognized for more than the guitar-hero pyrotechnics of his years with Canadian power trio Triumph, but doesn't mind being sucked back into the mold from time to time. In fact, Ipso Facto opens with "Straight Up," a headbanger of the first order. The quality branching out begins, however, with a pair of fingerpicking instrumentals -- "Lickity Bit" and "Transition" -- and the swinging jazz-blues of "Woke Up This Morning." Of less interest is synthetic pap like "Dig a Little Deeper" and the ballady, gushily optimistic "Let Love Conquer All" and "Heaven In Your Heart."

Born in Toronto, Canada, in 1953, Emmett picked up the guitar just before his teenage years, and eventually studied a wide variety of styles -- classical, pop, jazz, and rock.
