Believe it or not...
This is the best rendition of the Body Snatchers story, even better than the Siegel version. The film benefits from many factors: Kaufman's direction, and the period in which is was made (the 70's were arguably the creepiest decade for horror films...a modern gothic feel pervades throughout). The performances are fantastic, and the overall feel is noteworthy for the uncomfortable resonance, WITHOUT the studio imposed semi-happy ending. Kind of falls in the same class as John Carpenter's THE THING; two modern remakes better than their preceding classic ventures...
