Incan medicine man Wachan Bajiyoperak offers five traditional Incan and five original songs, which he plays on variety of flutes, drums, and rattles. New age composer Gerald Jay Markoe recorded nature sounds -- birds and surf -- and acted as producer. The songs are melodic, relaxing, and somewhat sad. "Senq'a Senq'ana" features the high-pitched nose flute and a gentle clicking percussion that reminded me of the rhythm of a woodpecker. A gentle deep drum and big flute play on "Hampiq' Taki," a traditional healing song. The clay ocarina and clay whistle are played on "Mosoq' Illariy," a song of hope. On "Pachamama," a(Mother Earth), Bajiyoperak breathes through the flute to give the sense of the breath of life. "Intillay" begins to exhibit the galloping cadence so familiar in most Peruvian music, while "Tahuantinsuyo" uses the pan flutes. "Intiq' Takin" (Hymn to the Sun) is a ceremonial march for summer solstice using conch shell, gong, and flute.
