    Astounding masterpiece!

By Michael Carr  Aug 4, 2000 | 1 out of 1 found this Indigo review helpful

Was I mesmerized or what! This is the darkest and most magical record Patrick has ever put out! Major contrast to the sunny daytime sounds of Rivers Gonna Rise and El Dorado. I was very surprised at how different it sounded considering that all the ...other stuff I had by Patrick at the time but it eventually grew on me to become my favorite record! He hasn't come out with a record like this since. Sure his two most recent are very good but nothing like Indigo. I was so sorry about procrastinating at buying for so long considering that it was no longer in print. This album has one of my favorites that I haven't heard in years and that was Coba. There was also Desire, Sacrifice, Beauty Within, and the sedative Espana. I am so happy that I have this wonderful piece of work . I will enjoy it forever. Read more Less

Indigo is one of Patrick O'Hearn's gentler CDs. His symphonic synthesizer and atmospheric textures forge a different soundscape -- different for O'Hearn, that is. The majority of this album is vivid and clear minimalism. The weaker moments glare in contrast to the subtle timbres and soft melodies. That has long been a problem of O'Hearn's. His great music stands proudly with the best of the best, but he has difficulty maintaining that standard. This enjoyable CD will appeal to fans of Tangerine Dream, Ian Boddy, and John Flomer.

In the early '80s, this bassist and synthesist was mired in the glitz and grind of pop music as a member of the group Missing Persons. Then friend Peter Baumann, best known for his work with Tangerine Dream, made O'Hearn an offer he couldn't refuse. Baumann had visions of starting a record label catering to his first love, contemporary electronic music, and he wanted O'... Read more
