The Indigo Prophecy is psychological thriller that puts players in the precarious role of Lucas Kane, a man who has just brutally murdered a complete stranger in a dingy, public washroom. As the game begins, Kane comes out of a trance with no recognition of the mangled, bloody corpse before him, nor any recollection of committing the gruesome act with his own hands.

Now a wanted man, he must avoid the police long enough to figure out what has happened to him, before he is captured and incarcerated for the vicious act. As stories of similar unprovoked killings begin to surface, however, and Kane realizes that he may not be alone in this terrible curse, it becomes clear that he may need the help of the very authorities who are hunting him down, if he ever hopes to discover the truth behind his terrible crime.

Originally titled "Fahrenheit," Indigo Prophecy was developed by Quantic Dream, known previously for its paranormal PC and Dreamcast adventure, Omikron: The Nomad Soul. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

    A Great Game

    Pros: Powerful Story

    Cons: the "Simon says" gameplay

Indigo Prophecy was by far one of the best games that I have played in a long time. It isn’t a game like Halo 2 or Rainbow 6, but it is like a mix of setting down with a good novel like Black House, a movie with loads of twists like Mothman Propheci...es, and a game like Syberia all rolled into one. As a matter of fact, it reminded me of one of my favorite Dreamcast games, Omikron (which by the way have the same developers). Indigo Prophesy has a solid soundtrack featuring Theory of a Deadman. The graphics are not anything for Quantic Dream to beat their chests about, but are very well done. The game does have some camera issues, and the “Simon says” thing got a little old, but the story was so gripping and compelling that it stayed in my X-Box for a full day and a half without getting swapped out for a while. Very few titles get that honor. Indigo Prophecy gives you the feel that your choices really are changing and making the story, much like Jade Empire; without having that Knights of the Old Republic “it really doesn’t matter what I chose” feeling. I am going to try to give you a synopsis of the story line without giving out any spoilers to the main story board. You start out in Doc’s Diner, in a stall in the bathroom. You stab a guy after he finishes using the urinal. After the act you realize what has happened, but you feel like someone else was controlling you. You the player gets to play as the murder (?) Lucas Kane, and Carla Valenti and Tyler Miles the detectives investigating the murder (you do get to play as some of the supporting characters but it isn’t very important parts). You have to concern yourself with each of the characters mental health, or they will break down and commit suicide. You have to think fast in the conversations that you have with other characters. The information that they have is normally very valuable, but you have to be smart and think about how to convince them to share what they know with you. It is so hard to give a great description of this game, because the way that you play it will make it unique to you. So I’ll say this, great soundtrack, better than normal graphics, an occasional funky camera, nice bonuses, good game play length, and a story that is worthy of awards. Out of ten, I give this a very solid nine. I am certain that this game is good enough that you will play it at least two more times all the way through just to see what happens if you do “this”. Indigo Prophecy - xbox

Despite its cinematic aspirations and genuinely unique approach, Indigo Prophecy is little more than a short adventure that relies too heavily on the same, bad mini-game when it should be mixing up the contextually-controlled goodness like a dyslexic DJ. Read more
