    A Little Change up

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 20, 2003 | 4 out of 5 found this Indestructible review helpful

Indie Legends Rancid explode with a new album that has an old fashioned feel. Getting back to some of their earlier style, Rancid gives us exactly what we want: Gritty vocals, heavy riffs, fast drum beats, and lyrics that are more profound than the ...lightning-fast album of "Rancid(2000)". Although the album is profoundly amazing in it's own right, it has a feel that they have been here before, but that does not mean a bad thing. "Indestructible"
; is no uber-classic like "And Out Come The Wolves.", but nobody was really expecting that. After years of recording, touring, partying, and ruining their lungs(armstrong), Rancid is still putting out incredible music; they truly are...wait for it... Indestructible.

i didnt really enjoy this cd as much as some of their other ones. yeah, i only like 3 songs. There are no Matt freeman lyrics... and that is why the cd is not good! Too many smushy songs that are not importanat nor meaningful!

Rancid's sixth album, Indestructible, starts off with a melodic blast of punk intentions, "Indestructible," and doesn't back down until the last chords of "Otherside," a heartbreaking ode to the late brother of Lars Fredericksen, fade away. In between are 17 songs that live up to the glorious reputation of one of the great punk bands of any era. Yeah, there ain't nothing new going on here: a little bit of ska, lots of politics, lots of pissedoff vocals (speaking of vocals, Tim Armstrong just keeps getting better and weirder with each album), lots of passion, and lots of melody. Songs like the anthemic "Fall Back Down," "Memphis," and "Born Frustrated" are the kind of songs that make you want to throw your arms around your nearest comrade and belt out the chorus at the top of your lungs. Songs like the redhot skafueled "Red Hot Moon"; the funky ode to the homeless, "Stand Your Ground"; and the spaghetti westerninspired "Django" show off the band's range. "Start Now" is the track that st...ands out from the rest; it has one of the band's best choruses and is a perfect blend of their epic and melodic tendencies. The only downside of the album is the slow ballad "Arrested in Shanghai," which is an admirable attempt at expanding their sound which nevertheless is a failure. There are also a couple of punkbythenumbers tunes, like the fairly plodding "David Courtney" and the silly "Roadblock." (It seems like the Larssung songs are the weak links on the album.) Overlook these small problems and this is still prime Rancid. If you know Rancid and love Rancid, you will love this record like an old friend. If you are new to the band, get this and then get And Out Come the Wolves immediately. Like, right now. Go. - Tim Sendra, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Rancid

One of the cornerstone bands of the '90s punk revival, Rancid's unabashedly classicist sound drew heavily from the Clash's early records, echoing their left-leaning politics and fascination with ska, while adding a bit of post-hardcore crunch. While some critics dismissed Rancid as derivative, others praised their political commitment, surging energy, and undeniable way... Read more
