    A good look into a lost time

    The Slits didn't release many albums, and this certaintly isn't the best collection of their works. Some of the recordings are of such bad quality, it actually hurts ( i.e. A Boring Life ), but what is lost in quality they make up for in sheer exuber...ance. Cut and The Peel Sessions are defiantly better recordings, but you miss out on the amusing and charming banter of Ari Up (" serious party time people, you know what I'm saying!?" ) So in the end I would defiantly recommend this album to any fan of the Slits.     Other than being a lyric from one of the songs included here, "In the Beginning" is quite a misnomer. Sure, some very early Slits recordings (of mostly bad quality) are included, but so is material recorded at their last gig, by which time they had ...evolved from an inept punk band to a smooth, avant-garde/dub outfit. While the later songs are top-notch, the group's early material is best heard on their Peel Sessions CD. Read more Less
