Pro Reviews: In a Major Way

  • All Music Guide

On In a Major Way, E-40 establishes himself as a West Coast kingpin after some formative previous ventures. He most notably teams up with three of the Cali Bay Area's leading rappers of the time -- 2Pac, Mac Mall, and Spice 1 -- for the posse track "Dusted 'n' Disgusted." Elsewhere he trades verses with fellow Click members B-Legit and Suga T and also Funk Mobb leader Mac Shawn. The Suga T collaboration, "Sprinkle Me," particularly stands out and would help spawn the female rapper's own solo career hereafter. Yet even with productions by longtime 40 standbys Mike Mosely and Studio Ton, In a Major Way suffers from relatively poor production, more a consequence of the low budget than the artists themselves.
