Dedicated to, among others, jazz great John Coltrane and Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, "If They Move, Kill 'Em" pays homage to both with frequent use of horns and oppressive ambience. Kevin Shields, of My Bloody Valentine fame, remixes the title track into an acid jazz-tinged techno rocker. The song is divided into four parts, beginning with three minutes of disembodied horn lines before smearing them over bass and drums. The guitars briefly take over before everything comes together in a climax of multi-layered grooves and aural textures. The rest of the E.P. fails to live up the promise of the first track. The "12" disco mix" of the title track fails to achieve the same level of intensity or sonic inventiveness of the Shields' remix. "Darklands" and "Badlands" are essentially the same song, with the latter being an instrumental.
