Because IWC has further perfected the legendary pawl-winding system invented by Albert Pellaton and featured in the company’s 5000 calibre movement to the point where the 80110 calibre automatic movement represents a new standard in reliability. IWC’s technicians have completely reworked the ingenious design using computer models with testing and analysis procedures that were unknown when Pellaton was Technical Director. The result is a clear improvement in the integrated shock-absorbing system which is to be found in no other automatic movement. The soft-iron inner case used to protect the movement effectively against magnetic fields up to a strength of 80,000 A/m has been retained.
