Pro Reviews: I'm a Moody Guy
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Before the glammy, leatherclad homewrecker Alvin Stardust, there was the pout and pompadour of Shane Fenton. Fenton's upswing hairdo and rakish gabardine were the perfect accessories to his persona as a less dangerous Gene Vincent his act emphasized the puppy dog eyes over the hint of danger. "Well I got no friends/And if I had/If I had I know I'd treat 'em baaaaaad" "I'm a Moody Guy" is without question a gem of the preBeatles pop era. It's the title track here, accompanied by his three other chart appearances and a clutch of solid album tracks. Highlights include "Cindy's Birthday" with its plaintive reverb guitar and shimmering strings; "Walk Away," which sounds like Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, and a surf instrumental all at once; and the "Rave On" rewrite "Why Little Girl." - Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide |
