    Amazing Album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 13, 2006

Pros: Unique, fun, and self written and produced by T-Pain

Cons: it's pretty perfect... so i don't understand why it's not getting more recognition!

It's so refreshing to buy a hiphop/r&b album that is talking about things besides drugdealing, explicit sex, and money/cars, especially by a dirty-south artist. Though there is one song about smoking weed, it's unique because it's about h...is first time smoking, and the song is GREAT. The songs that he does have on the album with sexual content aren't offensive and have poetic lyrics with great arrangement. His current single, In Luv With a Stripper, is the only song with lyrics that are a little on the lude side, but it's still not as nasty as a lot of other music out there. What's amazing is how he manages to still keep the hiphop/street feel throughout the album while still having elements that would appeal to the r&b/pop world. So pretty much anyone would enjoy this album. I think this album is ground-breaking and is not getting the recognition it deserves. T-Pain wrote AND produced basically the entire album, which is amazing considering he's only 21 years old! My favorite song on the album is "Fly Away" because it's a real personal account of his life, and it has a jazzy-bigband sound that is unlike any music I've heard in the last 15 years, and the vocal arrangement is awesome. The album also has it's fair share of upbeat songs that aren't the typical "crunk" type of songs you normally hear nowadays; they have his own original flavor with plenty of bass, and i love it. I hope this artist is around for a long time and makes many more albums and produces albums for other people, because I love his style and that he isn't conforming to current music trends... it's like he invented his own genre by fusing hiphop, r&b, and pop together, and the result is a masterpiece. Pro Reviews: I'm Sprung

TPain caught Akon's attention when he released a version of "Locked Up" titled "I'm Fed Up." When Akon heard TPain's voice and realized there was more depth to the version than the title implied, he got in contact with the Floridabased "rappa ternt sanga" (who also produces and writes) and signed him to his Jivedistributed Konvict Muzik label. Rappa Ternt Sanga, beyond containing a few strong tracks with plenty of range between them, shows promise. TPain has a seductive vocal style (he does sound somewhat similar to his mentor), plenty of effective hooks, and strong productions, but he presses too much when he tries to stick out lyrically. The craziest offense is "Studio Luv," in which he comes out sounding more than a little silly: "you remind me of a brand new saxophone," "your body's like a flute," "do you mind if I pluck up on your strings," "I would stroke your body like I do my keyboard." Another hindrance is the digital vocal processing that pops up as often as water droplets in... R. Kelly tracks. Though this factor has brought about plenty of comparisons to Zapp's Roger Troutman (as in the electrofunk classic "More Bounce to the Ounce" and late'80s slow jam favorite "I Want to Be Your Man"), Troutman used an actual vocoder (which produced a differentsounding effect), and TPain winds up sounding more like the Cher of "Believe." Had there been limited use of studio tricks and more guidance (as a new signee to a label with major distribution, TPain handles an inordinate amount of the writing and production duties), Rappa Ternt Sanga would've been a morethanrespectable debut. - Andy Kellman, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

T-Pain

Tallahasseebased MC and vocalist TPain (born Faheem Najm) came up in a rap group called Nappy Headz but went pro as a solo RB artist after he recorded "I'm Fked Up," a personal take on Akon's Top Ten hit "Locked Up." Akon heard the track and took TPain under his wing with a contract on his Jivedistributed Kovict Muzik label. Produced and written mostly by TPain, Rappa T... Read more
