at first you don't really like it....but then put the record away for a week and then listen to it again...after listin to the record a coulpe times you will really like it... and like i always say.... try listening to it in different moods and you will find that it has a quite a bite that really goes with surtain moods!
That's what this album suffers from. It's as though Richard D. James was trying to incorporate all the elements in his previous works, namely the ambience found in S.A.W. 1 and 2, Polygon Window and the harsh, abrasive
Elsewhere you may have seen me say that I prefer this album to the Richard D. James Album and Come To Daddy. Well, feel free to ignore my previous statements. This is undoubtably Aphex's worst album, and I don't find myself listening to it very often. I agree completely with what Dadropsta said below, and would recommend this album to the die-hard Aphex Twin fan only. If you're new to Aphex Twin, go and buy Drukqs - that album
Okay, this album has been touted as the best that Mr. James has come-out with. I would have to diss-agree whole-heartedly. As a collection of music it just doesn't hold up to 'Richard D. James' or to the 'Come To Daddy EP'. Those who say that this is his best really confuse me, because it's not. It's not even his second best. And 'Ventolin' (the track I was supposed to watch out for) is just a load of high-pitched squealings and distorted bass drums.......noise in everybody elses language.
For ppl new to Aphex Twin, don't get this if you haven't already got 'Come To Daddy' or 'Richard D. James'....as they are superior by far......and that's all i got to say on that one.
Superb album with outstanding tunes and programming.
Aphex is the king.......
"I Care..." is definately the kind of music that Richard should have stuck with. This marks the peek of his electronic ideas to date. Every song is full of intricate rhythms, with usually never conventional percussion, and subtle catchy melodies. If you like experimental electronic music, with tinges of ambient music, this is a classic in that area.
This cd is the best in the 'Aphex' series. I'll tell you why. Intelligent Techno. No track is repetitive, or the same as another. Every track takes on its own form, creative and genius! The other aphex albums are a little either too playful, or too serious. THIS ONE my friend, KICKS ASS!!!! One of my personal favorites of all time!!! Even if you don't like the idea of techno, you will enjoy this. This is why they call Richard "The Techno version of Mozart"!
It's very challenging and innovative. Ventolin rocks. That's the track to watch out for.
