    Pros: Soft and soulful

    Cons: Nuttin'

Used to love Alison Krauss and The Union Station crazily, but it's been such a long time since "Lonely Run Both Ways" no see Alison. Put this CD in your player, and get ready to dive in to a pure space full of brilliant piano sound. The... vocal of a legendary 20-time-Grammy Award-winning bluegrass/country singer is still really strong. Lots of collaborations, like "Missing You" ( duet with John Waite ), "How's The World Treating You ( duet with James Taylor ), "Whiskey Lullaby" ( duet with Brad Paisley ), "Lay Down Beside Me" ( duet with John Waite ), but I really prefer her solo performances. Just listen to "You Are Just Country Boy" or "Simple Love" and you'll see how beautiful and simple life turns out to be !!! Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Hundred Miles Or More: A Collection

  • All Music Guide

The title of Rounder's Alison Krauss compilation A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection is a bit misleading. While it does contain previously recorded material, it is not to be taken as a greatesthits package; rather, the 16 tracks are compiled from Krauss' numerous collaborations, soundtrack appearances, and other nonUnion Station gigs. That said, it's as solid a set of material as one could want from the multitalented Krauss. As a voice for hire, there are few singers with her emotional range, a gift she lends easily to the Elvis Costellopenned "Scarlet Tide" from the Cold Mountain soundtrack. Awardwinning duets with Brad Paisley ("Whiskey Lullaby") and James Taylor ("How's the World Treating You") the latter a Louvin Brothers cover as well as collaborations with the Chieftains ("Molly Bán") from the legendary Irish group's Down the Old Plank Road: The Nashville Sessions) and Sting ("You Will Be My Ain True Love") make this anthology of oddities far from superfluous. A Hundred Miles... or More also boasts five new cuts, including "You're Just a Country Boy," "Simple Love," the gorgeous "Jacob's Dream," "Away Down the River," and "Sawing on the Strings," the latter of which harkens back to early, more bluegrassoriented Krauss. - James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Alison Krauss

Alison Krauss helped bring bluegrass to a new audience in the '90s. Blending bluegrass with folk, Krauss was instantly acclaimed from the start of her career, but it wasn't until her platinumselling 1995 compilation Now That I've Found You that she became a mainstream star. Between her 1987 debut Too Late to Cry and Now That I've Found You, she matured from a child prod... Read more
