RE: Not as good as Alone With Everybody

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 4, 2003

Silly rabbit. What are you talking about comparing Richard Ashcroft with John Ashcroft?I didn't go throwing out my George Clinton albums when that chucklehead Bill Clinton tarnished the Presidency ;)Anyway, what makes Richard Aschroft so special is ...that he soars miles above the current disposable goat-rock scene. He makes immortal songs.Years from now, I'm sure I'll be revisiting Human Conditions the way I keep coming back to my old House of Love albums.Good music is forever. RE: new release?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 3, 2003

It's been out since October in the UK. It was OFFICIALLY released in the States on the said date. Just because you found an import in January doesn't mean that's how long it's been out.

    2002's Best

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 26, 2003

For me it was hard getting past "Human Condition", the song. I voted it my favorite of 2002. I would put the cd in a never make it past this song, but played it over and over and over. Finally, last weekend I let it go complete and enjoyed it thor...oughly. Ashcroft is always worth listening to. Read more Less

    BUY THIS ALBUM

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 25, 2003

Yes, R.A.'s first album was a work of genius, but it does not take anything away from his second solo effort. My only complaint with with this album is that I just can't get enough of it. With a running time of nearly an hour, it's as long as any o...ther album, but with Richard, you can never get enough. As for the album itself, it has a great unique sound. It speeds up, slows down, and ends with an unlikely collaboration from a former Beach Boy. It has substance, which is not something most of today's artists can boast.Richard is from an area rich in rock & roll history, and like so many other amazing artists to come from England's NorthWest, he shows us how music is more than just a rush of adrenaline. It is emotion expressed in words and music. Richard Ashcroft has perfected this type of expression, and you can't listen to his songs without feeling their meaning. Read more Less

This album is a little more subtle than "Alone ..", but the songs are strong. I love it.

    Decent

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 20, 2003

The good tracks are amazing, and Ashcroft really shines on them. Vocally, he doesn't hold back. There are some great string arrangements that are otherworldly. On the negative side, some (not all) of the lyrics seem a little ridiculous and the rhymes... a bit too free-associative and far-reaching for my taste("Paranoia/The destroyer/Comes knocking on my door"). I find myself skipping the tracks I find tedious. However, the good tracks are amazing, and so you excuse the album's incohesiveness. I didn't think every song on his last album was a gem either, but the ones I liked became favorite songs of mine. In that sense, I find this album similar to his last. You can't deny his talent, and you sense that he's true to his vision. Read more Less

Alone with Everybody was especially significant. I challenge anybody musicaly
inclined to follow up with a better effort!
This album is an extension of one today's
    musical talents!

Not as good as Alone With Everybody

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 19, 2003

There are some high points on this album, but it woefully inconsistent. If you are looking for a good intro to Ashcroft (isn't it a shame that his last name is getting tarnished by the Moron General John?), start with The Verve's Urban Hymns. If yo...u like that, the proceed to (in the following order): Alone With Everybody, Northern Soul, and then this album. I dig Ashcroft a lot. Alone With Everybody and Urban Hyms are two of the most prized albums in my collection, but he falls down a little here. Maybe he needs the stormy band relationship and the great guitarist to produce at consistently high level? Read more Less

    It will grow on you!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 9, 2002

Just like Richard Ashcroft's first album "Alone With Everybody", "Human Conditions" is a slow grower. The music is still the same. Sweet accoustic guitar playing with sentimental layers of orchestrations. And of course Richard's straight to the point... lyrics.Buy It In Bottles is quite honestly one of the most powerful ballads i have heard recently. Probably one of Richard's best compositions since The Drugs Don't Work from The Verve's Urban Hymns. Bright Lights is "Human Conditions"'s New York. A low key rocker about life in a big city.Paradise is another sweet track and so is Running Away. Lord I've Been Trying is yet another signature Ashcroft song. Not quite as great as Alone With Everybody but it's still Richard Ashcroft.Pick it upHighlight tracks;BUY IT IN BOTTLESBRIGHT LIGHTSPARADISERUNNING AWAYLORD I'VE BEEN TRYING Read more Less
