Romantic Masala

Pros: Salman's humor, Aishwarya's dances, Ajay's sensitive performance

Cons: Aishwarya's giggles

This is yet another love-triangle but made very aesthetically. This is perhaps the only Aishwarya movie I've watched repeatedly...because I've enjoyed her "chemistry" with Salman. She can dance well yes, but act...I still doubt it. She sure looks like a doll on screen but truly does not make my heart beat or head turn...she's meant to model.
Salman's funny, as always...but what makes this movie very special & warm is Ajay's character. I wanted to hold him in my arms and cry...I wanted to give him my shoulder to cry on...he's an ordinary looker but extraordinary performer!
The songs are simply mind-blowing because of Kavita Krishnamurthy's outstanding singing...after Lataji & Ashaji, she's the next legend!

Tender story of love in a world of traditions

Pros: Insightful, loving, funny, and very easy to relate to

Cons: It's pretty long, which is typical for the genre, but I did get a little restless during some of the songs

I'm certainly no expert on Bollywood, my Hindi friends have offered me up two films so far and I've loved them both, but those two films are the absolute limit to my exposure so if you're looking for a review that can take the whole of the genre into account, look somewhere else. However, I can compare this to what I've seen from Hollywood and this is a picture perfect romantic comedy.

The film centers around a women's forbidden romance with a charismatic and outgoing Italian singer and the marriage that is arranged for her with a thoughtful and reserved lawyer from her city in India.

A strong, but quiet driving force behind the film is also the concept of our fathers' roles in our lives. Each of the main characters has a strong tie to their fathers that plays an important role in the film. This is probably the point where the film makes is most insightful commentary on the differences between India and Italy in a grand sense.

The film does an excellant job balancing comedy with emotion and by the end you can't help but feel for each of the characters as they attempt to balance their lives and their hearts desires with what the world demands of them. It's a universal struggle and it's rare to see it presented in such an accurate and moving way as this film.
