Pro Reviews: House Party [Original Soundtrack]

  • All Music Guide

For being the soundtrack to Kid 'n Play's breakout movie hit, House Party features surprisingly little Kid 'n Play: only the brand-new single "Funhouse" and "Kid vs. Play (The Battle)," the climactic sequence of the movie. As a matter of fact, House Party is pretty skimpy overall, containing only nine songs. The title cut is a showcase for co-stars Full Force and an array of their associates, including Lisa Lisa Cult Jam, U.T.F.O., and Cheryl Pepsii Riley, among others. The Force M.D.'s, LL Cool J, and Flavor Flav ("I Can't Do Nothing for You Man") are the other big names here, and the rest is fairly generic. The best few songs, however, do make it worthwhile for fans of the movie.
