Pros: right on with the gruesome and the idea!!!

Cons: many parts were just too unrealistic, like if you loose too much blood you should have passed out, that bothered me.

I almost forgot to rate this one. I saw it on paperview, and the one I saw is the unrated version. (I could not find the place to rate that one)
Anyhow, this movie's premise is the shit!! Men always like to test to see how far they can go, and well, this shows just how far.
You root for the hero, but who really is the hero?? Not the one I expected. There are two scene that have to do with losing an apendage, one who looses that much blood should have passed out, but other than that, I liked it! I recommend watching the unrated, just because I don't know how well the R version really is and one should not miss out on this!!

Pros: This Movie Demonstrais the Depravity of the Film Industry

Cons: The Disturbing Content Will Remain In Your Mind Never to be Purged

This movie was well filmed and the acting is worthy of note however this is the kind of project that should never have been produced. The rating of "R" was appropriate but there should have been a requirement for a content warning on the cover.

I viewed this movie with an open mind and enjoyed the plot until the evil unfolds. I now wish I had not seen this through, it's images burnt into my brain and left me traumatized.

Do not ever let your children see this and protest the display of rentals without a content warning which should read as follows:

WARNING Disturbing Images of Sexual Content, Torture and Brutal Killing!

Friends Don't Let Friends Watch Hostel:
I may give some things away here, but that means you won't have to waste your time with this movie. Instead, you can do something more entertaining, such as cleaning the dustbunnies from behind the fridge.
The movie actually starts out pretty well, as two about- to- enter- gradschoolers meet a guy while hiking through Europe. They stumble upon a backpacker's hostel where anything goes. The freaky thing about the movie is that as an audience member, you know these guys are screwed, they just don't know it yet. It seems as though the aforementioned hostel is a front for abducting people. The abductees are then transfered to a dilapidated prison where they are tortured in a Saw copycat manner. After one of the American off-to-gradschool guys is killed, his friend, who starts out as a sniveling, snobby, punk turns into the ultimate action hero in order to escape the prison. All of a sudden, Hostel turns into Die Hard IV. The preppy shoots and kills his advesaries in ways that would make Bruce Willis' John Mclain bow down and claim, "I'm not worthy... yippi yi yo ki yah!!!"
The movie ends (finally) when the snotty college kid exacts his revenge on the man who is actually running the hostel front torture racket.
I certainly would not reccomend this movie. Severly overrated and overhyped.

Pros: I thought the plot was good.

Cons: All the blood and gore, which could be a pro to someone else.

So, I finally saw this movie the other day, and, OH MY GOD!!!! I had to shield my precious eyes in a lot of parts because it was absolutely DISGUSTING! I had been warned that it was bad, but I had sat through SAW, and so I assumed I could handle it. SAW had not prepared me for this film, though.

For me, the film was actually pretty good. The actors, I thought, were so friggin believable that they made me wince right along with them the whole time. I really, REALLY felt for them throughout the film, even if they were egotistical and pigs before the torture scenes. Plus, it helped that Jay Hernandez is a total hottie.

All in all, I thought the plot was decent. It made me not want to turn the film off and watch the rest of it. It really made me want to see how it ended, and the end was satisfactory for me.

This film has had a lot of bad reviews, but I tend to like movies that get bad reviews for some reason, which is why I can never trust the reviews until I have seen it for myself. I'd give it 3 and 1/2 out of 5 stars. Not bad at all.

I'm not wild about horror movies-but this one sounded interesting.....It actually had a "Hitchcockian" quality to it, if you take out the sex scenes, and the really graphic torture scenes. I think that this movie would have been a lot scarier if they made you imagine the drill going into the guys thigh rather that actually showing it to you. If you're a slasher movie fan, you'll love it.

Pros: great concept

Cons: over the top gore takes away from psychological fear and it just ends up being gross

Ok I didn't hate it, but I'm not sure this one I'll put in again soon. The concept behind the movie is great, it could have been turned into a really good psychological thriller but the gore pushed it past that and into stomach turning. The plot was strong and the acting was good, but the amount of blood and guts was just too much for me to really enjoy. The concept of a place where rich folk go and pay thousands of dollars to torture unsuspecting folk kidnapped off the street to death is creepy, cause hell I think there are enough psychopaths to keep an operation like that in business, but they lost me the third time I had to resist the urge to close me eyes and considered turning it off for fear my kids would wake up and walk out at just the wrong moment. All that being said there are a lot of great excellent boobs in this movie which lets be honest does help a little! In the beginning before the gore when it's just spooky mystery it's really enjoyable, but don't go into this one expecting to come out and go eat dinner. The over top gore fest knocked this one down to a 2.5 for me.
