    A Reunion Of Influential Components

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 9, 2004

    Pros: Good Delivery Of Songs

    Cons: Better Productions

New Edition is now a sextet on this adventurous cd. Two different components are here: 3 lead singers (Ralph, Johnny & Bobby),& BBD. A reunion album works here. Tight songs, but needs better productions. The ones from P.Diddy sounds hurried and u...sed on everyone else's albums. The six members proved to be a tight unit. My songs are1-Hit Me Off, 2-Tighten It Up, 3-I'm Still In Love With U 4-Home Again, 5-Somethin' About U,& 6-How Do You Like Your Love Served?. What could have made this better is if it was just only Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis producing.Other than that, it has it's good moments.Grade:B- Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

When Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe and Johnny Gill entered the studio for a full-fledged New Edition reunion in 1996, reactions ranged from excitement to skepticism. Would the chemistry still be there? With Brown, Tresvant and Gill (the only one who wasn't an original member) having put so much energy into their solo careers and the other three having enjoyed success as Bell Biv DeVoe, could they make a cohesive statement as a sextet? But in fact, they did prove cohesive on Home Again, the first New Edition album since 1988's Heartbreak and Brown's first with the group since 1986's Under the Blue Moon. Not remarkable but certainly decent, this CD is a long way from the type of Jackson Five-influenced bubblegum soul/pop Edition was recording in the 80s. Listeners wondered whether Brown or BBD's album would have the greatest impact on this project, and the truth is that both were influential. Some of the songs bring to mind BBD's in-your-face aggre...ssion, while others benefit from Brown's charisma. A few of the songs sound contrived, but in general, Home makes us glad the singers decided to reunite. - Alex Henderson, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

New Edition

New Edition's early, Jackson 5-inspired material made them the forerunners of two generations of teen pop (most of which was geared to white audiences). As they matured and progressed, they laid much of the groundwork for the fusion of hip-hop and RB known as new jack swing. In fact, after New Edition drifted apart, all of its members had at least some significant succe... Read more
