A team of scientists is assigned to a secret government research project to experiment with the possiblity of invisibility. When they find that one of their formulas works on animals, Dr. Sebastian Caine (Kevin Bacon) violates the rules of the project and tries it on himself. It works: he becomes invisible, but soon after that the team find that the formula is irreversible. He suspects his collegues, Linda McCay (Elisabeth Shue) and Matt Kensington (Josh Brolin) of sabatoging him: making him invisible forever, and he decides to seek revenge on them. From the director of BASIC INSTINCT and TOTAL RECALL, Paul Verhoeven, comes this new suspense-filled thriller, full of special effects and technical tricks.

    HOLLOW MAN, Hollow Movie

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 24, 2001

This movie is just about as bad as they come, joining the ranks of other mega-budget Hollywood attrocities of recent years like BATMAN & ROBIN, WILD WILD WEST, the new GODZILLA and Jan DeBont's dreadful remake of THE HAUNTING. I'm sure many viewers w...ere amazed at the special effects, but to me it's all been done before. I've seen the T-2000 morph, I've seen the Empire State Building explode, I've seen hundreds of giant insects marching across the desert. I'm no longer impressed. Wow, Kevin Bacon's invisible and just a blanket is walking around. Wow, Kevin Bacon's slowly disintegrating into nothing. Gee, ooo, aaah. The biggest problem is that the story sucks. Someone was paid to write this crap? Now that IS amazing. And the acting is terrible throughout. Elizabeth Shue, Kevin Bacon, Josh Brolin--all of them are capable of much more than this. Shue and Brolin are among the most one dimensional characters in memory, and Bacon's character isn't portrayed as enough of a megolamaniac early on to warrant his turning itno a psycho after just ten days of being invisible. It's ridiculous. There is NO attempt to be the least bit scientifically accurate to the point that the process by which the invisibility is achieved is never even touched upon. And by the way, if invisibility is a reaction to a serum injected into the body, then wouldn't the recipient become invisible from the inside out? Absolutely, but that wouldn't look as cool. Director Paul Verhoeven has made three great movies (RoboCop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers), two enojoyably trashy sex & violence romps (Flesh + Blood, Basic Instinct) and one godawful cinematic disaster (Showgirls). HOLLOW MAN isn't as bad as Showgirls, but it's less interesting. Showgirls was so horrible, it was fascinating. HOLLOW MAN is just mundane, boring and trite. The best part of the whole movie is getting a brief glimpse of Shue's thong-clad ass when she and Brolin are spied upon by a transparent Bacon. Watch THE INVISIBLE MAN instead. Read more Less

I've seen good movies and i've seen crap. This, my friends, is crap at its crappiest. I wasted a "free rental coupon" on this and i seriously want my money back. I mean, it was bad enough that we had to endure the lame plot, but this movie actuall...y gets NEGATIVE stars for showing us Kevin Bacon's "willy whacker". Leave it on the shelves, don't send the wrong message to Hollywood. Read more Less
