    A Complete Classic

    Pros: Everything!

    Cons: Nothing at all, enjoy

This is the most complete classic you will find. A must in any cd collection. I cannot wait for their brand new album being released on 9/28/2004 called One Love. New Edition's new single called Hot2Nite is now playing on radio stations all over ...the US. Look for it. Read more Less

    New Edition: 1984-96.

Pros: Hits album covering the MCA years of New Edition.

    Cons: Um...where's "Candy Girl?"

When the boys in the Jackson Five grew to be men, New Edition took the throne as the reigning r&b boyband. In the 1980s, they stole the hearts of teenagers and had a string of decent hits both on the pop and r&b radio. "Hits" isn't the ...first collection of its kind, and the tracklisting isn't flawless, but it's a pretty good survey of this Roxbury-based group from 1984 to 1996. From the bubblegum fare of the irresistible "Cool it Now" and "Mr. Telephone Man" to the more adult-sounding "If It Isn't Love" and "Hit Me Off," New Edition's greatest hits set shows how these guys evolved from boys to men. I'm slightly disappointed that "Hits" doesn't have "Popcorn Love" and "Candy Girl" from their debut album, but those tracks were released from the Streetwise label. So, understandably, they wouldn't be here. It's a minor flaw, but I can live with it. Everybody has heard at least one song by New Edition, and "Hits" is the album to get for a one-stop survey of their singles. If nothing else, this CD gives us a much-needed reminder that Bobby Brown did indeed have a career long before he married you-know-who. Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

When Geffen released Hits early on in 2004, there were a few New Edition compilations previously available, each one with its own set of problems. 1991's Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 (looks like that second volume will never happen) threw in only 11 cuts; 1998's Lost in Love: The Best of Slow Jams obviously left out the upbeat numbers; 2000's All the Number Ones ignored a number of significant, albeit lowerperforming, hits. More importantly, almost all of these sets including 1996's New Edition Solo Hits featured solo material recorded by various members of the group (along with the occasional Bell Biv DeVoe hit). With all of that considered, you'd be led to believe that a solid allNew Edition compilation would have to be padded out in some manner. If there's any proof that these older compilations shortchanged the group's career somewhat, it's Hits, which features 17 of New Edition's highlights, arranged chronologically from 1984's “Cool It Now" to 1996's “You Don't Have to Worry." Virtual...ly every moment of note is included. Whether you listened to the “High Five at 9"type show on the pop station or the RB station during these years, you're probably familiar with almost every single song. Needless to say, Hits is now the best onestop New Edition fix. - Andy Kellman, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

New Edition

New Edition's early, Jackson 5-inspired material made them the forerunners of two generations of teen pop (most of which was geared to white audiences). As they matured and progressed, they laid much of the groundwork for the fusion of hip-hop and RB known as new jack swing. In fact, after New Edition drifted apart, all of its members had at least some significant succe... Read more
