| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Prince Rogers Nelson was arguably the most creative and versatile pop performer during the late '70s and 1980s. This anthology is available as a three-disc set, and the two Hits discs are also sold separately. The tracks are not sequenced in chronological order, which would have provided the listener with a perfect evolutionary progression of Prince's musical development and maturation as a performer. Also, The B-Sides was disappointing. But putting those complaints aside, this still gets the ultimate recommendation. Prince did everything superbly: great message songs, wonderful party records, exuberant "naughty" tracks, sizzling ballads with a flair, and a rarely matched evocativeness.
