    Beware of Hitachi

    Pros: Beautiful pic; plenty of menu options

    Cons: Something wrong in the circuitry production

    After 26 months of ownership (average weekly use is 20 hours) and out of warranty, I had the exact same problem as ricardot2000. It occurred without warning. I have also learned that others have had this problem, but getting service is expensive and difficult. Unless it is within warranty Hitachi acts oblivious the fact that they put a faulty product on the market.

    Many with this problem think it is the power digital board (part JP50763) but a $75 service call by the merchant that sold it to me (after paying $75 to have it taken down from the wall by two hired guys) proved wrong. If that were the problem the total cost to me would have been $873 (about 30% of the purchase price).

    I now have to transport it to a Hitachi service center. The closet one to me will necessitate a 352 mile round trip over two days since I have to leave it and they will order parts after diagnosis. Quotes on the various boards that could be causing the problem will set me back $600-$950 total plus my transportation costs and loss of time. This assumes that it is only one board and not multiple failures.

    Obviously Hitachi created a problem and should do what is necessary for the consumer. Many are suffering a large monetary loss because they will not stand behind their product for a reasonable amount of time.

    Pros: Great Picture

    This was my first Big Screen, and HD tv. I have been very happy with my tv. The picture is good for what it is. Its not 1080 or anything but is great for what I need it for, Movies, and video games ect. Fortunately I have never had to call support and from reading the other review i dread that day. The only issue I have noticed with this tv is watching espn or a sports program the ticker on the bottom when it scrolls right to left it lags sometimes.

    Warranty nightmare

    I bought this Plasma TV and had problems from the start. It appeared as if the TV lost the signal and would recycle the start process. Often coming at times that disrupted the viewing experience. Finally, after only 8 months of use, the TV started recycling every 15 seconds or so, the picture and sound would go off and the blue light at the front of the set would blink signaling that the TV was acquiring the signal again, this process is repeating every 15 seconds.

    I called Hitachi America and they said that I had to call their authorized service center and that even though the TV was only 8 months old, they would not replace it but repair it.

    I called Best Buy Magnolia Home Theatre and they sent someone out 6 days later. When the repair guy showed up he said that he had to order parts because he was not sure what was wrong with the TV. I called Hitachi again with the repair person present and informed them that we were already going into 10 days without a repair and that it appeared that we would have to wait an additional 10 do get a chance to fix this TV. They again said "sorry" but no replacement ony repair.

    Even though the TV looked great when it was working, this slow service and unwillingness to replace an obviously defective product leaves me o choice but to rate this experience 2 stars. Terrible warranty service on a high ticket item.

    If you bought this tv and have had a similar experience please let us know. Send Hitachi a message tha bad consumer service is not acceptable.
