    Worth biting the bullet

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 11, 2005 | 5 out of 5 found this Hitachi 42HDF52 review helpful

Pros: Good shadows & shades; better than expected speakers

Cons: Cheesey remote; Hitachi service proably OK, but store where sold was mediocre

I hemmed and hawed about getting a, HDTV, and though $2399 was a lot for me, I think this HDTV is the best value out there. Great detail in shadows. The lower-end EDTVs (Maxent; Zenith; Sylvania) were tempting because of the price, but that's bec...ause in a year all signals will likley be HD and nobody will want an EDTV. I bit the bullet and spent the extra cash. I was concerned about plasmas not having much of a life span, but the factory gives this thing 60k hours of viewing (about 20 yrs). I'm not crazy about circuit city, but the factory warranty should obviate the need for circuit city to get involved in any service needs (I hope). Best Buy does not carry this set; they did not have an HDTV this good for this price. This set is HEAVY at 103 lbs, so online sellers will nail you with shipping charges. Use a platinum card to buy it and avoid expensive warranty upgrades. Read more Less

    My second Hitachi

    By Erik L  Oct 26, 2005 | 2 out of 2 found this Hitachi 42HDF52 review helpful

    Pros: Price

    Cons: Remote Quality / Inputs

I finally purchase my second HD set for what was initally built to be my home office. After we go it in the house and mounted it on the wall (which was set up just to hold a Flat panel screen) we fell in love. My newly built office quickly became a m...ovie room. The black frame really makes it look nice in a dark room. The inputs are upsetting (so few component inputs) but if you purchase a good receiver that can change the signal to the set you'll be fine. This is my second Hitachi HD set. The first is a projection model with a pretty cool remote. This remote leaves a lot to be desired but for the price over all I'd do it again. One last note. When we purchased this set, the fisrt one we brought home didn't work. We had to take it back. That concerned us. Read more Less
