Pro Reviews: History of Dot Records, Vol. 2: Come Go with Me

  • All Music Guide

Much more stylistically consistent than volume one, in that at least this is all rock roll (or, in Pat Boone and Tab Hunter's cases, teen idol fare that bordered on rock roll). It's an average collection of oldies from the late '50s and early '60s, unconnected by anything other than the fact that they were released by Dot. There are some classics (the Dell-Vikings "Come Go with Me," Arthur Alexander's "Anna"), some novelties (Dodie Stevens' "Pink Shoelaces"), some good one-shots (Sanford Clark's early rockabilly hit "The Fool," Travis and Bob's Everly's soundalike "Tell Him No," the Shields doo wop classic "You Cheated"), and some minor hits (by Carol Jarvis, Nick Todd, and Ronnie Love) that never get played on the radio anymore...
