Synopis: Gathered from the 1930s, '40s, and '50s, the vintage films in this collection form a collage of images of Philadelphia, its suburbs, and surrounding communities. Filmed in the midst of the Great Depression, the promotional film "It Happened in Mayfair" offers a realistic perspective on how people in Northeast Philadelphia dealt with the economic hardship of the 1930s. "It happened in Norristown" focuses on similar subjects (businesses, people, and sites), but this time takes viewers outside of the city for a look at how the Depression affected more rural areas. While most of the remaining films ("Miracle on the Delaware," "Our Home: Doylestown," and "Our Home: Levittown") paint colorful portraits of life in and around Philadelphia, a couple of the films focus on more somber themes. For example, "A Place to Live" provides a visual contrast with the rest of the lighthearted films by examining the poverty and dispicable living conditions of Philadelphia's inner-city slums.
