  • All Music Guide

The first part of Albert Ayler's career found the tenor saxophonist playing rather violent solos and searching for the right sidemen to interact with. This set (recorded in the Netherlands) features Ayler with a fairly ideal group: a quartet with cornetist Don Cherry, bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Sunny Murray. Together they perform five of Ayler's themes (including "Ghosts") along with Cherry's "Infant Hapiness." It's not for the faint of heart.

His first musical jobs were in RB bands, incl... Read more
