    Pros: evertything

    Cons: production

Every now and then there comes an album the gets by most everyone. High Wire by Ernie Isley is one. As a musician, I am blown away by his burnin' riffs and apparent ease as an artist. I guess the comparison to Henrdrix is going to happen, but tha...t's ok because Ernie is everything Jimi was plus some. I know that Jimi is a god to guitarists... I am one myself.. but Ernie fulfills the promisr that Jimi made to the muse ("Song for the Muses). So why is he not as popular? Beats me. I think that the slick production makes this an easy album to put into the background... that is until you actually sit down and listen. Ernie is as good a guitarist as anyone who ever picked up an ax. His unique sound is only a signature....it's how he uses that sound that makes him stand out. Listen to the bends on "High Wire".. they come about 4 minutes into the song then he comes up with a classic Isley "..woo hoo!". It's like he's saying "Yah... I know...". You like Hendrix? You like Kravitz? You owe it to youself to sit down and crank Ernie up. Read more Less

    HIGH WIRE

    By Kenneth W  Nov 5, 2007

    Pros: Well Written & performed

Cons: came out when New Jack Swing was in full effect

It was simply the best album to come out that year in my opinion. Ernie was known until then as being the guitarist and studio drummer for the Isley Bros. Heavy on guitar and well thought out lyrics. Listeners are given insight into the person I thin...k may have had more than just minor input into the Isley Bros. hits. I know first hand from the man himself that the song "Harvest for the world" came from the purchase of a new Martin accoustic guitar. I love this album and hope that with the current unfortunate situation of Ronald Isley currently being incarcerated that Ernie fill the void with a new CD. I think the public may finally be ready to truely appreciate his vast talents. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: High Wire

  • All Music Guide

An astonishingly diverse solo debut by the Isleys' axeman, High Wire is full of screaming guitars, tight riffs, ear-tugging melodies, and evocative vocals.

Biography

Ernie Isley

Guitarist/drummer/singer/songwriter Ernie Isley infused the Isley Brothers with a Jimi Hendrix-like virtuosity that took the veteran RB group into a more rockin' direction, earning 11 gold and five platinum albums. Later as a member of Isley/Jasper/Isley, he sang lead on the RB hit "Look the Other Way," and scored a number one RB hit with "Caravan of Love." Much of his ... Read more
