    FAIRLY GOOD

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 6, 2001

A bit of a disappointment, but has some good songs as well. This is not one of their best. Some good songs are:1) Happy Ever After (Lead Vocal Barry)2) When He's Gone (LV Robin)3) Secret Love (LV Barry/Robin)It is definitely better than their previou...s album (ESP). Read more Less

Oh, my lord, what a record!

This is one of the Bee Gees best albums, with no doubt. Not a single track avoids filling the room with all kinds of sounds and, of course, beautiful music. I agree with you other reviewers, it is over-produced...almost. No, as a matter of fact, I do... not agree with you, this is one of the greatest landscapes of sound there has ever been. In album format. Every song is an individual highlight. Highlights are, if not every track, "When he's gone", "Happy ever after", "Dimension" and the magical masterpiece "True confessions" (I can't get enough of that "ooh" intro in the chorus). BUY!!! triisybabesuk: Can you think of a way that I may listen to this album from your source. I believe I have access to just about every song by the Bees Gees but this one. Somehow it was not released in U.S. I can be reached at Yahoo, obviously. Than...ks. Read more Less

    Second Best?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 8, 2000

Until "Size Isn't Everything" I felt this was the perfect CD.With hindsight (9 years of) it remains excellent, but a little inconsistent. It feels like the Bee Gees have been given a new box of toys and produced an album that uses EVERY sound effect ...in it's memory bank. For some tracks, this works well ("When He's Gone", "Ghost Train") but on others it sounds TOO MUCH. ("Evolution", "Party With No Name" (the song where some evil spirit possesses Barry for the 1st 2 lines...)Over sentimental ballads seem a bit mushy and out of place, with "The Only Love" being the greatest Eurovision Song Contest entry there never was.Highly recommended listening though, this album will forever be in my 5 favourite albums ever category. High Civilization Review

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 3, 2000

The album 'High Civilization' was the Bee Gees first album of the 90s, released mid-1991. This album sounds more like an experiment with synths if anything else. To me it sounds 'unfinished'.Nevertheless there are some great songs on this album and ...is one of my favourites. Highlights are 'Secret Love'(the most successful single off the album, UK No.5), 'When He's Gone', 'Happy Ever After' and 'The Only Love'.Synth-pop lovers should love this album, and is worth buying.
