Pros: Filled with up-beat country-esque rock music!

Cons: No sophomore slump, Limbeck only gettin' better!

"Hi, Everything's Great" was released 3 years ago and just recently I had a lucky chance to see their stunning live performance at Anaheim. The audience wanted to hear "Julia" (Track 3), is such a happy song about a girl who&#...39;s so smart, and its so damn catchy. Most of the songs in this album have a feel of mid-west country feel, (not to be mistaken with Tim McGraw or Garth Brooks or Brooks and Dunn type of country), more up-beat with nice electric guitar riffs and bitter-sweet lyrics. "Honk + Wave" is probably one of the best rock track 1's. It starts with a lyric, 'She broke my heart in two...' The lyrics sounds depressing, but the music gets you going as in dancing, moving, or singing along. "In Ohio On Some Steps" is a mellow song, where there was a bit of audience participation at that live show I attended. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Hi, Everything's Great

  • All Music Guide

On Hi, Everything's Great, Limbeck's California power pop is touched with a country rock twang, which gives it the propulsive vibe of Lucero, Centromatic and the Weakerthans without entirely measuring up to the output of those groups. Still, the jangle of “Honk and Wave" and “Silver Things" makes for emotional and catchy tunes that, if a bit even, prove that the band is really quite idiosyncratic. Now, “Julia" is a song that goes above and beyond by mixing the sound of Son Volt with the feelgood pop of Phantom Planet it's a true classic. Then there's “In Ohio On Some Steps", a sleepy, golden acoustic number with a great 60s sound that is one of the best folk country tunes of the year. And if the album on a whole isn't quite as good as it's best songs, it does show that Limbeck is a band in flux, and they're traveling in a great direction.
