Pro Reviews: Hey War Pigs

  • All Music Guide

If you seek snark, the vitriol is literally throwing up out of Velvet Crush's Ric Menck disgusted throat on his solo protest single, inspired by George Bush's Middle East adventure. Flanked by longtime associate Matthew Sweet, the pair blow through big guitars on covers of Kimberly Rew's (Soft Boys, Katrina the Waves) "Hey War Pigs" ("Don't kill my kid," says it all), and original Roy Loneyera Flamin' Groovies' classic "Teenage Head." Both are hostile and heavy like powerpop was before it became new wave weenierock, and you'll dismiss this as a hobby record at your own peril.
