He may not be a household name, but a whole CD's worth of unissued Kid Thomas is something worth bringing to your attention. After all, it is a) scorching, chaotic, harmonica-driven, rockin' blues straight out of the '50s acetate mentality, chock full of alternate-take heaven, and b) an undisputable fact that a joint purchase of this and the Rockin' Harmonica Blues Men CD will make you pretty much a Kid Thomas completist. Titles on this 16-tracker include four takes of "The Wolf Pack," and four takes (I count up five on the back, but the disc only plays four; make that a 15-song compilation -- earth to quality control at Wolf) of "Beulah Come Back," two just-plain-nasty takes of "The Spell" (off an acetate that skips on the second take, for God's sake) the instrumental "Jivin' Mess," "Come In This House," "She's Fine," and the title track, an "I'm a Man"-style voodoo stomp that truly justifies the pompadour the Kid is sporting on the cover.

Biography

Kid Thomas

Kid Thomas, aka Tommy Louis, aka Tommy Lewis, was and is one of the great unsung heroes of that crazy kind of music that skirts the fine line between blues and straight-out rock roll. Though success constantly eluded him throughout his career, it wasnt for lack of talent. With a powerful voice that could emit banshee wails and Little Richard howls with consummate ease,... Read more
