Synopsis: Hellboy (2004)
Synopis: When a Nazi mystical experiment goes awry in 1944, the target of a wizard's spell, the child of Satan, Hellboy, is wrenched from his home, and adopted by the U.S. agents who intercept his arrival. Raised as a force of good, Hellboy grows up to be a full-fledged demon in the form of a man, complete with fierce red skin, a tail, a giant armored glove, and two large circles where his horns should be (if they ever grow back, Hellboy is quick to break them off). Now, the adult Hellboy, an investigator of the paranormal, is sent on a mission that brings him back in touch with the evil genius that started it all... that Nazi wizard (and just who is *he* anyway?). Accompanying him along the way are other agents, including Liz, a pyrokinetic woman Hellboy has feelings for, and Abe Sapien, a mysterious amphibian hominid...Features: Hellboy (2004)

Cons: Oh boy
This is one the very few movies that I was willing to leave before the end. The adds for the movie showed all of the scenes that would be of any interest to me. This left the rest of the movie. I willprobably watch it again on cable just to be sure that it was as bad as I remember it but it will not be making it's way into my collection. Another comic book movie, fit for children, but not for adults. ...

Pros: Faithful adaptation of clever comics
Cons: Over most folks' heads, apparently
Mike Mignola is the greatest! I almost would have preferred that this film be animated, since Mike's art is the whole point of Hellboy, but the 'animated' art in the special features made up for a lot of costume cheesiness.
A LOT of people seem to be confused by the Lovecraftian nature of both Hellboy's & the supernatural threat's origin...
Hellboy is NOT the Son of Satan. Even the 'official' review got this wrong. Rather, he and most of the film's monsters are from extra-dimensional planes full of all sorts of creatures, which the conventional mind may INTERPRET as Hell, a la H.P. Lovecraft or Hellraiser.
Maybe most folks' problem is that the whole film in general was a little over-the-top in it's introduction of so many comicbooky elements at once, but that's why I dug it. =)
The special effects in particular bear mentioning. Abe Sapien was so impressive that I didn't recognize his voice until I read the credit on here. and I recognized him right off in Osmosis Jones... ...
