Pros: Great lyrics, interesting package/cover
Cons: Few songs
John Mayer returns with his follow-up album to Room For Squares. Here he matures a bit both musically and in his lyrics which hints at deeper issues. Gems in this album are Clarity, Something's Missing, Home Life and Come Back To Bed.
Pros: the begining of the album
Cons: the end of the album
what happened? i was cool wit the first half, but the second half threw me off guard!!
Pros: Great Lyrics
Cons: The album
I was amazed by his " A room for squares " album. So I went to purchase " Heavier things " as soon as I could. I played the album twice to make sure that it really sucked. Well, it did. So I took the center part of the CD and closed it up and modified it into an expensive coaster.
Pros: The tune and lyrics are awesome!
Cons: none!
I think that John Mayer is one of the best solo artists these days! He is an amazing guitar player...I love when he just goes off and starts playing guitar and messing around at concerts! "Heavier Things" is an awesome CD! All of the lyrics in the songs are meaningful, and the tunes rock, too. The CD never gets old! I bought it when it came out in September and I still listen to it about once a week! It's a great CD for soft listening! You should all check out his Summer 2004 Tour Dates...he is awesome in concert!
Pros: album is great
Cons: none
JOhn Mayer's follow-up album is terrific. He only getting better.
Pros: none
Cons: all
sucks
Pros: I started loving music 1000% more because of him.
Cons: What cons?!
It rocks. No questions asked.
Pros: Great Song Writing, Good Songs
Cons: Not Much Acoustic, Only 10 tracks for $12!!!
There's no doubt that John Mayer is a great Singer/Song Writer... Room for Squares is one of the best albums to hit the music market... but his new album "Heavier Things" is fairly entertaining and a whapping 10 songs for your hard earned $12 bucks... I guess this album is pressured for a release... and i hope John Mayer would do more acoustic stuff coz thats what he's good at...
Pros: Everything
Cons: there were cons?
I have to admit, i wasn't a diehard fan when room for squares came out, but i liked it and bought the album. When Heavier things came out i was just blown away. I couldn't stop listening to it! He really stepped it up this time and i just love his lyrics and voice. The cd practically lives in my discman. Way to go John! You freakin rule.
Pros: Great singer
Cons: still a great singer
I don't even have this cd ( I have room for squares though, simply love it), I want it really bad though.
So my review doesn't really count. But what does count is the fact that john wraps up what I call " City Music " into neat packages of musical genius. He makes you feel like you are out on the town having a grand ole time
waltzing past clubs, and carousing with friends, and girlfriends, even when you are just simply at home feeling lonely. One song I have heard besides Bigger then my body is ," clarity " this song brings me back to the good ole times I felt when I used to go out on the town. His music is crisp and clean, with no aftertaste. And all of this coming from a guy who likes heavier bands, I really think I'll take well to heavier things.
Pros: Most excellent
Cons: What's the fuss about this being bad?
After reading the reviews on here, I must admit, I was doubtful about Heavier Things. I'm listening to it right now, and YES- it is different from Room For Squares. What a WONDERFUL follow-up! He's experimenting, growing, and fills this record with fun. From Clarity onward, it just goes upward! Great energy, great sounds, great singing, great music = GREAT ALBUM!
Rhythms, lyrics, melody and feeling all hit the mark.
he writes all of his own music and is soo wonderful on cd and in person
WHo is this guy? I listened and this is what I thought... crapola....
sorry Johonny boy.. tryony again
John Mayer's sophomore studio release is heavy indeed! With tracks like "Something's Missing", "Clarity" and "Bigger Than My Body", this is one opus really worth spinning in one's player.
In a nutshell, "Heavier Things" lives up to the promise of "Room For Squares".
Young John Mayer and his clear, sexy voice won't have to wait to "someday fly or soar". I believe he already is as I can envision him coming up over the horizon, "bigger than his body gives him credit for"! The CD insert provides a map of geograhical sites, moods and perspectives of each song. Really quite innovative and unique. John Mayer is a true musician and creator of music to be honoured. So truly refreshing in comparison to the media market, cookie-cutter types and hypes of today.
this is the worst milk and toast musician in the world. he is so bland he makes harry conick junior look like johnny rotten. speaking of rotten, i heard mayer is working on a new record. and if you just cant waite, why dont you sit in an elevator and listen to that music. it should tide you over.
On Heavier Things John Mayer puts down the acoustic guitar that was so good to him on Room For Squares and trys something new. This album touches more on his blues playing ability than R4S, as well as tries to pull away from it's complicated guitar riffs. The first song on the CD Clarity introduces fans to a new insturment on a Mayer album...the trumpet. Clarity also gives you a better idea of Johns vocal range. Track number five, a ballad called Come Back to Bed, shows Johns bluesy side as well if not better than any previously released material. This CD has staying power and should stay in the top 40 over the next 18-24 months. If you don't own it, buy it! You'll be glad you did!
i mean it still is the same john, but the background music is more in the foreground.. its awesome. and i do agree, there are some heavier things on this album but overall its still care free john
How does he know what we're thinking? Great lyrics, music, album cover. I think John's music is refreshingly different from alot of what's playing on the radio, VH1, or even MTv. I can appreciate him and the difference in this new album from previous. An artist has to change to grow to keep moving ahead. I loved the whole thing! Keep it up John!!
I thought that Mayer's yet again wonderful album was a complete hit! It made me actually sit down and listen to the cd over and over again. He should be very proud of himself regardless of the bad reviews others have written. They apparently do not appreciate John Mayer.
Mr. Mayer does it again, sensitive style. This is different and fresh and new. Sensational!
I just love this CD. It hasn't left my stereo since I bought it. He comes through with great lyrics and melodies that are captivating. Keep on making music, John, you are a great and truly talented musician.
