a desert island disc
, February 8, 2001Reviewer: shorel - See all shorel's reviewsCommitment: to every song, every phrase, every beat, every note of raw heartfelt rock and roll the way only the Boss can do it this side of the pond. "You think your jewels ain't made out of paste? Believe me they're lookin' that way!" ("Turned Up Too Late") The back beat on "Back Door Love" is infectious. "Fools Gold" is one of those rare numbers that sounded like a timeless classic the first time I heard it twentysomething years ago, and still does. The title track is still the most explosive opening track of any album I own, with the possible exception of "Got To Be A Better Way Home" by Southside ("Hearts of Stone", another d.i.d.). I could go on, but better discover for yourself. You won't regret it, and besides I think this album is usually discounted. G.P. and the rumour get down
, April 11, 2000Reviewer:
Exceptfer - See all Exceptfer's reviews A happy album, with a lot of Mersey sound. This collection is the flip
side of "Squeezing Out Sparks", which
has a harder, punk flavor to it, and more cynical. "Hotel Chambermaid" is
probably the most popular on "Heat". Two other tracks may be the origin of North Carolina beach music, but sound infinitely better. This album may be played from start to finish without a break.

| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Essentially Howlin Wind -- Vol. 2, as Parker and the Rumour demonstrate that their initial burst of high-quality songs can extend to a second album, in the same year as their debut. - William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide |
